DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Jeffrey Earnhardt is currently the only member of the iconic racing family competing in one of NASCAR’s top series.
The grandson of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and nephew of Dale Jr., 29-year-old Jeffrey is piloting the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. It’s the first of nine XFINITY races he’ll run for JGR.
Earnhardt qualified second Saturday morning for the second-tier XFINITY Series race, the NASCAR Racing Experience 300, later this afternoon. And this weekend, he’s competing with possibly the best helmet on the 2.5-mile track.
On the back of his black and blue helmet is an amazing photo of Dale Sr., shirtless and riding a horse. Written next to the image is: “JUST A GOAT ON HIS HORSE!”
This isn’t the first time Earnhardt has honored his late grandfather.
Just last year in the Daytona 500, Earnhardt also had a photo of Dale Sr. on the back of his helmet. Because Earnhardt is competing in the XFINITY Series event at Daytona, this is the first Daytona 500 in 40 years without and Earnhardt in it.
The NASCAR Racing Experience 300 is Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET on FS1. Earnhardt has competed in 75 Cup Series races and will start in his 67th XFINITY Series event.
